Calling All CFID Members! It’s Regionals Season!

By: 0

Hey Guys!

First attempt at a blog post for CFID! Yay!

I hope that everyone had a great weekend! We have some exciting things happening at CFID in the very near future and I wanted to keep everyone in the loop.

Regionals

One of the most exciting things happening right now is the start of the CrossFit Regionals this past weekend and the fact that our very own Breona Evans will be competing in the Atlantic Regional in Atlanta June 2-4th. We have a lot of folks who are somewhat new to the “sport of fitness” called CrossFit so I want to explain what this means.

After the CrossFit Open (in which many of you participated) the top finishers were selected to advance to the Regionals stage of the competition. To give you an idea of just how hard it is to qualify for Regionals:

–In 2016 over 324,000 people participated in the open from 175 countries around the world.
-Of those participants, only 660 qualified and received an invitation to compete as an individual at their respective Regional competition
-Out of those 8 Regional competitions, the top 5 men and women were selected to compete in the CrossFit Games (40 men and 40 women).
-Bre finished in 7th place at the Atlantic Region in 2016, narrowly missing the top 5 finish needed to be one of only 40 female CrossFit athletes IN THE WORLD to receive an invitation to compete at the CrossFit Games

I couldn’t begin to explain the amount of hard work, dedication, diligence, and sacrifice it takes to achieve what Bre has so far. To paraphrase Pat Sherwood (one of the announcers for CrossFit events): “You can’t even imagine how good you have to be just to suck at the CrossFit Games”.

We Need You!

I write all that to emphasize this: CrossFit Identity is lucky to have Bre. She’s one of the most humble, energetic, and kind people you’ll meet. Her smile endeared her to the crowd at Regionals last year and she was a natural as a fan favorite. She’s eager to help anyone at the gym and it’s our turn to support her.

If your schedule allows PLEASE come out to the Atlantic Regional June 2nd- 4th. We have the unique opportunity to host this event in our backyard (GA World Congress Center). Athletes will be coming in from all over the East Coast and won’t have as much support as we can offer Bre. It’s up to us to take advantage of having the “home field”.

We were BY FAR the best cheering section last year and I expect us to retain that title this year! At it’s core CrossFit is about community and this is where CFID shines. I can’t wait to get loud and rowdy with all of you at Regionals again this year. It’s a family friendly event so please invite some folks who may not know what this whole thing is all about. Who knows, you may inspire them to begin their own fitness journey or you may just want to bring the kids to help set a positive example about fitness. Whatever the reason, we hope to see you all there.

You can purchase weekend passes or single day tickets using this link . Once we know the times of the events we will keep everyone posted on when Bre will be competing…typically the individuals compete from late morning to early afternoon. Details will be posted in our Facebook group, via email, and the blog.
